Abstract The Entre Nous Bridge Club was founded May 27, 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina by sixteen women to play a card game known as Five Hundred. The group, with membership limited to sixteen, met monthly in members' homes. Abstract The Friendly Union Society was formed in Charleston in 1813. It consisted of a membership of no more than fifty men and no less than five. It was formed for the relief of orphans and widows in the community; and to provide for the general welfare of the community as a whole. Abstract A Charleston (S.C.) orphanage for African American children, founded in 1891 by Reverend Daniel Joseph Jenkins. The Orphan Aid Society (chartered 1892) was the governing board of the orphanage.
