Clarence Graeser letter

This collection contains marbled papers created by Juliette Staats. Some scraps contain formulas for colors used written on the back of the paper in pencil. Full sheets are stamped "Decorated Juliette W. Staats Papers" or signed Juliette W. Staats. 79 full sheets (60-64 cm. x 50-53 cm.); 10 partial sheets (47-66 cm. x 48-63 cm.); 103 scraps (19-53 cm. x 14-48 cm.).

Collection Overview This collection consists of a limited edition of signed samples of 45 sheets of handmade paper measuring 19 x 26 cm. The paper was made by Andrew Smith of Beaverton, Ontario, in 1975 from shivy flax, deshived flax, spectral flax and rag, stay-pressed sheets, rough rag, smooth cotton, levi blue, levi blue and flax, and cotton and wood chips. William Aiken Kelly diaries, 1862, 1864 (photocopies)

Collection Overview

Two journals containing holograph entries kept by Confederate Civil War officer, William Aiken Kelly. Also contains a photograph of Kelly in uniform (1862). Volume 1 (1864 Jan. 1-Dec. 31) contains brief daily entries concerning the weather, promotions, camp locations, transfers of men, and other activities. In the back of the volume are brief accounts for amounts received and paid. Volume 2 (1864 July 27-Aug 31) provides more detailed accounts of Kelly's activities.
