Collection Overview The collection consists of two photograph collections and three typescript copies of articles written by Hyde. The photographs in the collection are of the South Carolina Inter-State and West Indian Exposition, 1901-1902, or were taken in the Lake Moultrie vicinity during the construction of the lake. Abstract Laing School was founded January 29, 1866 by Cornelia Hancock (1839-1926), under the auspices of the Friends Association for the Aid and Elevation of the Freedmen of Philadelphia. The school began with 50 African American students in the damaged remains of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Abstract The Rosenwald Schools Initiative was founded by Tuskegee Institute founder, Booker T. Washington and Sears and Roebuck Co. president, Julius Rosenwald in 1912.
