Historical Note
Hamer Spinning Mills, located in Dillon County, South Carolina, was a subsidiary of Macanal Mills of Salisbury, North Carolina. Another subsidiary, Maiden Cotton Mill was located in Maiden, North Carolina. All three were purchased in 1945 by New Yorkers Alex Madans and his brother-in-law Max Schiffman.
The mills spun fine cotton yarns for the textile trade. Hamer Spinning Mill was sold in either 1977 or 1978.
