Collection Overview

Papers consist of financial and legal documents and correspondence pertaining to Harrison and Louise Wagener Randolph, the Randolph family, and George Andreas Wagener. Financial documents include bank deposit books (1918-1961) of Harrison and Louise W. Randolph, tax returns (1946-1960) for Harrison and Louise W. Randolph and their estates, a ledger (1955-1959) of accounts of Louise W. Randolph and her estate, reports of audits (1956-1959) of the accounts of Louise W. Randolph and the estate of Harrison Randolph, an insurance policy (1893) for George Andreas Wagener, receipts (1894-1907) for the payment of premiums on this policy, and a Randolph family account book (1870-1872) recording expenditures for groceries, rent, washing, and other goods and services. Correspondence (1942-1961) pertains to the financial affairs of Harrison and Louise W. Randolph and their estates. Legal documents include the wills of Harrison Randolph (1954) and Louise Wagener Randolph (1953).

Biographical Note

Harrison Randolph was born in New Orleans (La.) and spent his boyhood in Charlottesville, Virginia. Randolph was a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was an instructor from 1890 to 1895. Randolph was a professor of mathematics at the College of Charleston (Charleston, S.C.) and president of the College from 1897 to 1942. In 1911 he married Louise Wagener, daughter of George Andreas Wagener.
