The black and white photographs in this collection were taken by Bill Aron in October and November of 2000 for the photo essay Palmetto Jews, which appeared in the book A portion of the people: three hundred years of southern Jewish life. Columbia, S.C.: University of South Carolina Press, 2002. Also included in this collection are slides and contact sheets of all the images; duplicate slides and photocopies created by the Special Collections Department of the College of Charleston of all Aron images; slides, negatives, and photographs taken by Dale Rosengarten of the Aron photo shoots; a shot list and slide set notes with brief descriptions of the people, places, and subjects found in the Aron photographs; Dale Rosengarten's field notes; copy of notebook with signatures, addresses, and notes from participants in the "Uptown Crowd" photo shoot; correspondence from Bill Aron to Dale Rosengarten; image selections for A portion of the people; and signed model release forms. 175 photographs taken by Bill Aron; 197 copies of selected Aron photographs; 294 slides of selected Aron photographs; 224 contact sheets; 437 slides and 64 photographs taken by Dale Rosengarten.
