Armand Derfner, b. 1938, has been a litigator in private practice in Charleston, SC, since 1974. He has litigated civil rights cases since the Voting Rights Act of 1965 went into effect in August 1968, when Derfner represented voters in Greenwood, Mississippi. Gracie B. Dobbins (1905-2001) was an African American school teacher. She was born Gracie Lee Burns in 1905 and graduated Avery Institute in 1924 with a teaching certificate. She later married a Mr. Dobbins and taught at Minnie Hughes Elementary School on Yonges Island and possibly elsewhere.
