The Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina (WBEMC) collection holds fifteen (15) series:
Series 1: Woman's Convention of South Carolina: Annual Session Minutes (photocopied): 1888-1948
Contains photocopied annual session minutes from various South Carolina Baptist churches. Also holds photocopied booklet: Sixty Milestones of Progress (1948).
Series 2: Woman's Convention of South Carolina: Annual Session Minutes (bound): 1962-2007
Holds published annual session minutes from various South Carolina Baptist churches; some containing event programs, typescripts, memorandums, calendar of events and "Book of Reports."
Series 3: WBEMC Youth Department Convention: Annual Sessions and other WBEMC Minutes and Programs: 1965-2003
Contains various meeting minutes and programs regarding Youth Department activities; with bound minutes and historical booklet Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention 50th Anniversary 1950-2000
Series 4: Baptist Educational Missionary and Sunday School Convention of South Carolina (BEMSSC) and Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina (BEMC): 1877-2002
Holds annual session minutes, mostly photocopied. Includes journal, Accenting Baptist Leadership in South Carolina with biographical sketches of BEMC members.
Series 5: National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. (NBC) Bound Minutes: 1968-1996
Includes financial records, memorandums, event programs, newsletter, rosters and conference materials regarding training church members.
Series 6: WBEMC Organizational Papers: 1954-2003
Contains photocopied typescripts of various South Carolina Baptist church histories; financial statements and treasurer reports; typescripts regarding foreign missions; agendas and handwritten notes regarding convention planning meetings; scattered typescripts of WBEMC leadership training workshops and mission studies; correspondence regarding WBEMC activities; and scattered Baptist Informer newspapers (1967-1968) and WBEMC newsletters (1982-2003).
Series 7: Biographical Sketches: 1980-2006, and undated
Holds biographical sketches of notable women in the WBEMC, including Jacqueline Wright Canty, Isabel Reuben Dixon, Arabella H. Rich and Lucille Whipper. Includes tribute booklet of former state president Memorable Reflections of an Extraordinary Lady: Dr. Mamie N. Coker (1994)
Series 8: Morris and Benedict Colleges: circa 1950s-2005
Contains Board of Trustee reports with scattered event programs, memorandums and brochures.
Series 9: Research Materials and Typescripts of Born to Serve: 1925-2005 and undated; bulk: 2001-2005
Holds correspondence, reports, grant applications and proposals, interview transcripts (questionnaires) for the WBEMC project (2002), financial records, research documents, handwritten notes, scattered photocopied newspaper clipppings and photocopied drafts of published Born to Serve book.
Series 10: WBEMC and Born to Serve Audio and Visual Materials: 1988-2002, and undated
Contains cassette tapes of oral history interviews of Dr. W.H. Neal, Erula P. Dozier, and Dr. Sanders (2002); VHS tape recording of public meeting entitled, "Documenting the History of Black Women in South Carolina, 1888-2001" at Reedy River Baptist Church (2002). Also included are photographs used in the making of the book and associated ephemera.

Holds mostly photocopies of session minutes; bound where indicated.
Series 12: Isabel Dixon: Personal, Professional and Church-related Papers: circa 1970s-2002, and undated
Contains correspondence,and handwritten notes regarding Dixon's participation with the South Carolina School Board and Hampton County Retired Educators Associations; typescripts of Baptist church histories; scattered memorandums, finanical reports, committee rosters, event programs; and National Baptist Women convention programs.
Series 13: Ethel Gordon: Personal, Professional and Church-related Papers: 1979-2004, and undated
Holds biographical documents; organizational papers, correspondence, handwritten and typed board meetings notes, financial reports, member rosters, event programs from various National Baptist Conventions, annual Woman's Conventions, and WBEMC annual meetings. Includes Gordon's booklet, Help! The Family is in Deep Trouble,(1980), and correspondence, financial reports, and event programs from the South Carolina Association of Ministers' Wives.
Series 14: Aletha Lewis: Personal, Professional, Church and School-related Papers: 1958-1991, and undated
Contains biographical documents; typed speech transcripts; black and white photographs of Rafting Creek Baptist church members (circa 1960s); scattered meeting minutes, typescripts, financial reports, member rosters, and event programs from various WBEMC and Morris College activities.

Historical Note
The Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina (WBEMC) was founded by African-American women in 1888 "to promote the cause of Christ in South Carolina by Christian Education and Missionary work." Its members have supported eight colleges and schoops, developed programs for young men and women, engaged in missionary work at home and abroad and have responded to larger challenges confronting African-American and American society.

Abstract
The Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina (WBEMC) collection consist mostly of published annual session minutes (many photocopied), event programs, organizational and committee papers documenting the women and youth auxiliaries of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina (BEMC) from 1888 to 2007. Included are materials from other local, state and national organizations within the Baptist community, such as meeting minutes, event programs, and various documents from the Baptist Educational Missionary and Sunday School Convention of South Carolina (BEMSSC); materials from Enoree Baptist Association, Kingston Lake Missionary Baptist Association, the National Baptist Convention and the WBEMC supported institutions, Morris and Benedict Colleges. The collection also holds biographical sketches of key women in the Convention and research materials, typescripts, photographs, and audio tapes relating to the book, Born to Serve: A History of the Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, by W. Marvin Dulaney, Damon Fordham, and Muima A. Shinault-Small. Smaller series holds the papers of WBEMC members, Ethel Gordon and Aletha Lewis.
