Biographical / Historical

John R. Dupree was born and raised on a tobacco farm in North Carolina. He began working in government in 1955 as a civilian in the Navy. In the late 1950s he was drafted by the Army and spent two years in Paris. In 1965, he began working with the Federation Aviation Administration. Then in 1972, he began working as part of a small team in Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. The team was there at the request of then-president Mobutu to assist in establishing a civil aviation organization.

Dupree purchased the artifacts from local markets from all over the country.

Dupree retired from the FAA in 1990, and settled in Santee, SC.
