Included are Carlotta Harris's miscellaneous papers and letters from family and friends concerning personal and family matters. The correspondence of other family members is also included. Photographs are of various locations in Charleston, S.C. and of family and friends.

Lancelot Minor Harris was a professor of English at the College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina for 43 years. His father was a professor at the University of Virginia. Harris graduated from Washington and Lee in 1888, then taught Latin at Tulane High School in New Orleans for a year before returning to Washington and Lee to teach German and Latin. While working on his Ph. D. at Johns Hopkins University, Harris became an instructor of English at Indiana University. Upon graduating Harris accepted a position at Charleston, Harris married Carlotta Letitia Morrow Hill (b. 1865) in 1917.

The third series is made up of personal papers; diplomas, financial papers, letters of recommendation, a marriage certificate, passports, etc. The fourth series is a compilation of Lancelot Minor Harris' writings, both published and unpublished. The fifth series is devoted to the correspondence of Carlotta Harris, friends, and family. The sixth series contains the correspondence of the Harris's family and friends. The seventh series is a compilation of photographs taken of Charleston, South Carolina, family, and friends. The eigth series is comprised of additions, including correspondence, notes, lectures, and research papers.
