Collection Overview

The collection consists of copies (negatives, copy prints, and digital images) of photographs taken at Dachau concentration camp and collected by Paul Bridges, a U.S. soldier who served as a guard at the camp after its April 1945 liberation. Bridges is shown at Dachau in several photographs, which also include Holocaust atrocity photographs that were widely distributed following the liberation of the camp. Images of Nazi insignia and caps collected by Bridges are also included.

Biographical Note

Paul Bridges (1924-2010) was a U.S. soldier stationed at Dachau concentration camp, where he served as a guard after its liberation. Upon his return to the United States, he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and worked as an accountant in Greenville, South Carolina, prior to retirement.
