Recounts dueling incidents and biographies of several citizens of Charleston and South Carolina. Topics include: John Lyde Wilson, the dueling code of honor, how-to guidelines, and rules; the duels of: John Stewart and Job Howe, James Grant and Thomas Middleton, John Haly and Peter DeLancy, Henry Laurens and John Paul Grimke, General Howe and General Gadsden, Benjamin Simons and William Clay Snipes, Jacob Read and M. Cary, James Mitchell and a Mr. Sterling, John Rutledge and Strace Senter, and many others. The manuscript abstracts letters, accounts, newspaper articles, records, and other sources regarding the duels.
