Subject Source: Art & Architecture Thesaurus
Scope Note: Items, usually of metal, flat, and rectangular or oval in shape, worn on the belt of a uniform or other costume. When part of a military uniform, often bear insignia of rank or unit. Includes plates worn on waist belts, shoulder belts, and sword belts. Usage sometimes overlaps with "belt plaques," which may be made of various materials, although items made of stone are typically called "belt plaques" rather than "belt plates."
