Abstract
Albertha Johnston Murray (1889-1969) was an African American educator born in Charleston, South Carolina to William Henry and Mary Ellen Virgin Johnston. Murray retired from the teaching profession in 1959, and remained active in numerous educational, social, and humanitarian organizations. Murray-LaSaine Elementary School was named in her honor along with Mary Alice LaSaine. She married Richard Gailliard Murray and had one daughter, Hazel Albertha Murray Stewart.

Abstract
Cleveland Sellers, Jr. (born 1944), an African American from Denmark, South Carolina, was a participant and leader of a variety of student, civil rights, leftist, and Pan African movements in the 1960s and 1970s. Sellers alone was indicted and convicted for inciting a riot during the Orangeburg Massacre, in which three students of South Carolina State University died and many others were wounded; Sellers was later pardoned.The majority of the collection details Cleveland L....

Abstract
The Rosenwald Schools Initiative was founded by Tuskegee Institute founder, Booker T. Washington and Sears and Roebuck Co. president, Julius Rosenwald in 1912. Washington saw the need to build schools for African Americans, particularly in rural areas across the South and Rosenwald was looking for a charitable opportunity to support and expressed interest in the plight of the Black community.
