Reginald Barrett, Sr. was considered one of the leaders in Charleston's African-American community. He worked with J. Arthur Brown to force Charleston's Stadium Commission to allow Black high schools to use Johnson Hagood Stadium in 1959 and with Bill Saunders during the 1969 Hospital Worker's Strike.
