The Guenveur family papers contain materials from two generations of the Guenveur Family dating from 1914 to 1961. Family members documented in the collection include siblings Lauretta Guenveur (née Goodall) and Baxter Douglas Goodall and two daughters of Edward Leon and Lauretta Guenveur, Florence Louise Guenveur-Streat and Helen Guenveur Smith. Series I: Education, 1914-1961 is the largest series and includes materials from schools, colleges, and universities that Guenveur family members attended. It is divided into four subseries arranged in chronological order of the materials. The first subseries documents Lauretta Guenveur's attendance at the Avery Normal Institute and includes her notes on classes and experiments conducted in chemistry and physics and the April, 1940 issue of the school newspaper, Avery Tiger. The second subseries documents Baxter Goodall's attendance at Howard University and includes his commencement program, yearbook, the April 29, 1929 issue of the school newspaper, and a January, 1961 issue of the school magazine.
