Abstract
For Outward Bound, "As a licensed captain of various 19th century sailing vessels (tall ships), Carlyle Brown has operated and managed these ships for sail training programs, youth development, and the charter trade both on the North Atlantic seaboard, and in the Caribbean Sea."
"Captain Carl Brown, as he is known in the trade, was for many years a specialist in the outdoor adventure based education and a licensed captain of 19th century sailing vessels. A senior instructor and program director at the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, he has led expeditions in thirty-foot open whaleboats on the Maine coast, through the Florida Keys and in Florida Bay. Working with diverse populations his particular specialty were programs designed for "youth at risk." He has designed programs for both adjudicated and incarcarated youth, adventure-based programs for shools, educators, and corporated leadership trainers. He has served as site safety inspector for Outbound Bound National, and as a consultant for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on safety and program for the East African Outward Bound Mountain School located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya, East Africa. As a licensed captain of various 19th century sailing vessels (tall ships), he has operated and managed these ships for sail training programs, youth development, and the charter trade both on the North Atlantic seaboard, and in the Caribbean Sea."
