Carousel 1-2: Colin Turnbull's Lectures of Mbuti and Ik Village Life
Scope and Contents
The slides series consists of about 10,000 personal and professional slides taken by Joseph Towles, Colin Turnbull, and others during their world travels, mostly relating to the Mbuti of the Ituri Forest in Uganda and the Ik of the Congo (1948-1988). They reflect the people, physical environment, material culture, and rituals. Many slides also relate to Towles and Turnbull's project on Tourism as Pilgrimage and include images of India, China, Japan, Indonesia, and other countries. Personal slides include images of vacations, holidays and visits with friends and family.
The slide series was organized and annotated by Colin Turnbull in 1991.
