Collection Overview

Correspondence (ca. 1920s) to and from local No.1 Union of Charleston, SC and Members (including applications for admission, notes to members, agreements for apprenticeship; wedding invitation; ); calls from other unions and national organizations for social justice including two blank ballots (1919) re the willingness of the local union to join in a general strike to protest the jailing of Tom Mooney and Warren Knox Billings, a petition (ca. 1924) demanding the release of political prisoners sponsored by the General Defense Committee and a letter from Union Garment Manufacturers of America (1924) protesting the use of prisoners to create garments. Also includes requests for union members' business, and misc. others.
