Scope and Contents
Created during the exhibition's initial title of Transcendent Traditions: Baskets of Two Continents. In junction with the Avery Research Center, as part of the Lowcountry Heritage Initiative, this project worked with basket makers, community leader, and cultural instituitions to educate the public about the history of sweetgrass basketry and current threats to its survival. Hence, Avery was charged with creating "a large-format book of portraits and an exhibition of contemporary baskets, featuring Mt. Pleasant families who have kept the art alive." Holds Interview and Photographic Agreement and Release Forms, interview transcripts, event flyers.
