Scope and Contents

Designated by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as a "We the People" America's Historic Places project, the initiative goals was to focus attention on the basket makers and their community and to identify hertiage sites associated with the craft and with the history of rice cultivation. The initiative was created to produce a series of self-guided tours of local sites which told a larger history of the region through the story of Sweetgrass Baskets. Projects included the publication of the Sweetgrass Family Album Book a documentary film production, a local basket exhibition at the Avery Research Center, the creation of heritage itinerary brochures, and a website. Contains two sub-series: Sweetgrass Family Album and Heritage Tour Guide.
