Collection Overview

Collection primarily consists of course materials, personal correspondence, photographs, yearbooks, publications, clippings, and other materials relating to Vance Bonner and her time as a student at Ashley Hall and Newton College of the Sacred Heart. The correspondence includes letters received by Bonner from family and friends, as well as letters she wrote to her mother describing her travels in Europe and South America. The course materials feature report cards, class projects, course syllabi, notes, and related research materials. Also included are yearbooks from both Ashley Hall and Newton College, as well as various award ribbons received by Bonner throughout her academic career.

Biographical Note

Vance Bonner (born February 10, 1950) is the daughter of Rear Admiral Emmett P. Bonner (1918-1975) and Elizabeth (Healy) Bonner (1922-2010). As a young adult, Bonner lived in Charleston, South Carolina, where her father was stationed at Joint Base Charleston. Bonner graduated from Ashley Hall in 1968 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Massachusetts. Bonner also completed her Doctorate in Health Sciences at Columbia Pacific University, where she researched posture, alignment, and pain reduction. In 1993, Bonner published the Vance Stance, a book relating to the “Bonner System of Structural Reprogramming.”
