Historical Note

In 1978 and 1980, the South Carolina Attorney General's office investigated allegations of improper practices by Chem-Nuclear Systems at their radioactive waste burial site in Barnwell, S.C. These allegations had been brought to the Attorney General's attention by Susan Lott, a former employee of Chem-Nuclear Systems, and included accusations of improper disposal of certain radioactive waste materials, worker overexposure, and collusion between state employees and Chem-Nuclear Systems.
