Biographical Note

Isaac W. Hayne was the Secretary of the Nullification Convention in 1832-1833. He was an outspoken advocate of secession in his native state of South Carolina. During the Civil War, he was appointed Commandant of Conscriptions at Columbia, S.C. He also served as the South Carolina Attorney General from 1848-1868.
