Collection Overview

Papers include assorted photographs of brothers Harold and Herman Goldman as well as photographs with their parents, Morris and Esther Rachel Goldman. Also included are routine personal letters from their father and others, clippings, and assorted sales agreements and receipts for merchandise sold. In addition, there are materials relating to the brother’s membership in the Freemasons, including a Freemason fez and apron, as well as personal religious items, including a daily prayer book, mezuzahs, and tefillin.

Biographical Note

Harold Goldman (1901- ) and Herman Goldman (1903-1973) were born in Jellico, Tennessee, to Morris Goldman (d. 1938) and Esther Rachel Goldman (d. 1929). The brothers worked as traveling salesmen, selling their goods from North Carolina to Texas. The brothers were also members of the Freemasons, belonging to Jellico Lodge 527.

Processing Information

Minimally processed by Josh Minor, January 2025. At the point of acquisition, this collection contained no original order. For preservation purposes, the collection was re-housed upon receipt by transferring materials into acid-free boxes and placing loose materials into acid-free folders. Box contents were used in order to create a preliminary inventory. This finding aid may be updated periodically to account for new acquisitions to the collection and/or revisions in arrangement and description.
