The collection consists of five newspaper clippings of letters to the editor of the Charleston Standard. The letters were written in 1856 and were in response to a series of lectures by Orestes Augustus Brownson. They attack the "Catholicity" of Brownson's theology. Each is signed "Protestantism."

The collection contains correspondence between John Asbury Zeigler, Jr. (1912-2015) and Julius (1904-1945) and Frances Butwin (1911-1996). The letters discuss literary interests, political activism, daily life, and the writings of all three individuals. Included with the letters are drafts of short stories and poems authored by Zeigler.

It is incomplete and is primarily concerned with the period from 1935 to 1970. The history prior to 1935 was to be based largely on J.H.
