"Selected Articles", approximately 1934-approximately 1948

 Box — Box: 2

Collection Overview

From the Collection:

The collection consists of typescripts from the Charleston newspapers noting anything related to education. The information included is primarily about all aspects of the College of Charleston, but is often about private grammar schools and is sometimes about local scientific work. Meetings of scientific and literary organizations were regularly noted particularly those of the Literary and Philosophical Society of South Carolina, whose museum became the basis for the College of Charleston Museum. Subsequent museum acquisitions were often noted. There are references to colleges elsewhere, most often to South Carolina College (the University of South Carolina), but also to the colleges in northern states. Overall, the notes provide substantial information about the intellectual life in Charleston from 1767-1880. The notes are divided into two series (1) "Index and Synopsis" are primarily of citations to every item noted as potentially relevant and (2) "Selected Articles" are full transcripts of the articles dating from 1798-1858 that Easterby selected as most likely to be useful for the history of the College of Charleston. The collection also includes an index to "The College of Charleston Magazine" from 1898-1938"A Selected Bibliography of Printed Materials Relating to the History of South Carolina" (1936), and "The Significance of South Carolina History" (1948).
