Collection Overview

From the Collection:

Collection consists of the papers of author and College of Charleston Professor of English, Bret Lott. Materials document Lott's writing career beginning with his first published novel up to his most recently published works and include numerous manuscripts (some stored on floppy disks), with author's and editor's notes, and related materials including correspondence and cover artwork. Also included are book reviews written by and about Lott, assorted memorabilia and souvenirs including book reviews, letters of congratulations, and other ephemera as well as materials relating to Lott’s work with the National Endowment of the Arts and The Southern Review literary journal. There are also assorted publishing contracts, royalty statements, sales statements and other legal documentation from Lott's agents and publishers regarding oversight and ownership of his works. There are also materials relating to his teaching and early writing career, assorted promotional materials including The Song I Knew By Heart book signing banners, assorted audiovisual materials including audiobooks, radio and television interviews, and lectures on CD, videocassette, and audiocassette, and Lott's Brother Deluxe 750TR typewriter.

This collection has been minimally processed, but is open for research with the exception of Box 24, "Personal letter received, 1982-2002" and Box 25 "Personal letters received, 1945-2013" which are closed to researchers until after the death of the donor.
