Warren Hubert Moïse letters, Family correspondence 1933-1934, 1939
Scope and Contents
Letters include information on Warren Hubert Moïse's father Edwin Warren Moïse (1810-1868), primarily focusing on his career as a prominent attorney and judge in the South, especially during the Civil War when he served as a judge of the Confederate States Court in Louisiana. Warren Hubert also provides information on the family's struggles due to losing their fortune after the Civil War, discusses his uncle, the well-known painter Theodore Sidney Moïse (1808-1885), and shares what genealogical information he has gathered on the Moïse family, as well as the Hubert and Vaughn families. Also includes 6 photographs featuring Warren Hubert originally enclosed with the August 17th letter, and letters written to Edwin Warren Moïse, primarily regarding the care of the portrait of his great-uncle Edwin Warren Moïse, painted by Theodore Sidney Moïse (1808-1885), as well as a letter providing information on the British politician Lord Lothian, formerly known as Philip Kerr.
