Scope and Contents

Civil War Diary of (Lieutenant) Henry W. Hendricks (color copy) detailing his day to day life as a soldier in battles in Virginia, including those at Drury's Bluff, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, the Battle of the Crater, and others. With descriptions of military hospitals, being a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware, a furlough home, and then service near Wilmington, NC, Forts Fisher and Anderson, and a second time as a prisoner of war in Washington, DC. Includes mentions of family and fate of many South Carolina soldiers he knew.
