This collection consists of legal papers (1764-1850) related to property owned by members of the Cuthbert family in Prince William Parish, Beaufort District, South Carolina.

Papers include leases, releases, bonds, renunciation of dower, extracts of a will, letters, deeds of conveyance, deeds, a mortgage, a memorandum, and plats of Myrtle Grove, Leith (or Live Oak Exchange Plantation), and Providence plantations (surveyed by William Brailsford, John Goddard, and others).

Individuals mentioned in the papers include Hugh Bryan, Ann Palmer, Charles Palmer (Ann Palmer's youngest son, a plantation owner), Mary Calder (Ann Palmer's daughter), Archibald Calder (Mary's husband and executor of Ann Palmer's estate), David Toomer (an executor of Ann Palmer's estate), C.J. Colcock (of Beaufort, S.C.), Henry William DeSaussure, Susanna Forrester (of John's Island, S.C.), Charles Heyward, Thomas Savage Heyward, Nathaniel Heyward, William Stoutenberg (a plantation owner), and William Skirving (of Charleston, S.C., executor of Stoutenberg's estate).
