Scope and Contents
The Dr. Lela Haynes Session papers, 1940-2013 are arranged in two series documenting Dr. Session's awards, certificates, and tributes that she recieved over the course of her life and oversize materials covering her education, awards, and photographs.
Series I: Awards, Certificates, and Tributes, 1967-2013 contains an Allen University distinguished graduate medal, certificates from the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church for Dr. Session's elections as a Lay Delegate, certificates from AME training workshops, AME Church Lay Legacy award, AME Church Layman of the Year award, and her regalia from her honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Union Baptist Seminary.
Series II: Oversize Materials, 1940-2013 is arranged in three subseries documenting Dr. Session's education, awards, and photographs. The first subseries, Education, includes her diplomas from the Avery Normal Institute and Allen University as well as a group photo from the 1940 Avery Normal Insitute class reunion. The second subseries, Awards, Certificates, and Tributes, includes the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto awarded to her in 1979. The third subseries, Photographs, includes a poster featuring a portrait photograph of Dr. Session from 2013.
