Custodial History
The book was among Dr. Alba Meyers Lewis's (Dr. Brown's mother's youngest sister) possessions at the time of her death. Dr. Lewis was married to Mr. Alexander C. Lewis who was from the Orangeburg area and graduated from Claflin College. The couple were prominent Orangeburg residents.
Mrs. Annie Lewis, whose signature is also in the book, reared Alexander Carrion and he took on the name Lewis (legally) after some years. Alfred may have been his father, but the book was among Alexander's things. Dr. Alba Lewis, taught at South Carolina State for many years and became director of the Felton Laboratory School for Early Childhood Education. Her interest in early childhood education may account for their holding on to the book.
