Duncan, Lawrence Oral History, 1973

Scope and Contents

An oral history conducted by an unidentified woman with Lawrence Duncan, an African American and North Charlestonian. No consent forms for this oral history were included in the donation. Mr. Duncan discusses his early childhood and education at 7 Mile Schoolhouse from the ages 6-12, his work on the railroad and at a bank. He also discusses his family history including his mom, Josephine Gadson (ne. Mitchell), born in 1887, and his maternal grandparents, Simon and Donna Mitchell, who lived around Goose Creek. He also discusses much of his family's records being lost in a 1956 house fire.
