Materials include correspondence about petitions to desegregate Districts 2 and 4; a letter about police violence against Charlie and Jannie Rheitt in their home near Reeisville, S.C.; correspondence about the death of William Crosby on Edisto Island; speaking invitations including to a group of Cornell students, to the Charleston, W. V. branch of the NAACP, and at demonstrations; letters of congratulation to his election to the S.C State Branch of the NAACP; correspondence from Thomas A. Carrere, the superintendent of District 20, about J. Arthur’s court case and request for admission of his daughter to Rivers High; correspondence with F. B. McKissick about joint efforts between the South Carolina and North Carolina NAACP branches; a letter from Leola Clement to Julie Wright about youth activities in Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina; the possibility of building a prototype bomb shelter at Burke High School; a letter about decisions made at a December 1964 Executive Committee meeting; the Civil Rights Team’s investigation of MUSC; and telegrams of congratulations regarding J.
