Abstract
"A Collaborative Project: Carl Brown, Deborah Masters, Lea Schaetzel"
"The Flight of the Raven" is a collaborative performance of writer-director, Carl Brown and choreographer Lee Schaetzel. Combining Brown's interest in the translation of scholarly material into performance art and Ms. Schaetzel emphasis on modern choreography of tradtional forms, THE FLIGHT OF THE RAVEN is an exploration of the continuity of traditional ideas in a spiritual context. The story of the struggle for spiritual contact, the search for the ritual-the right word, the proper action which opens the invisible doors where the unknown can be understood. Influences of Afrian Art and onotological expressions, the shape and structure of Greek drama, and the fluid dynamism of Afro-American creative styles unified here to depict the morphogentic need in man to ensure his link with the beyond."
