Abstract

One of six plays included in the 1992 Mid-West Play-Labs Conference sponsored by the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was produced by the Penumbra Theater Company in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1993. "Set in 1872, Buffalo Hair tells the story of the Ninth and Tenth Calvary, a group of Black soldiers sent to put down an uprising of the Southern Cheyenne. After a long night of waiting on the prairie, they capture an attacking warrior who turns out to be a Black man that has chosen to live among the Cheyenne. Brown explores many perspectives on race, history and the plight of the Buffalo Soldier in this compelling drama."
