Scope and Contents
This series contains documents pertaining to the creation, organization and history of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church. It includes an act of incorporation, constitution and canons, articles of association, church histories and studies, architectural descriptions, photographs of clergy and church leaders, news clippings, an autograph from the church's architect, Louis Barbot and photocopied pages from Rev. Anthony Toomer Porter's autobiography,Led On!: Step by Step, Scenes from Clerical, Military, Educational, and Plantation Life in the South, 1828-1989. Porter helped raise money for the establishment of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in order to help his community recover following the aftermath of the Civil War.
