Includes The Genius of Universal Emancipation, Pine and Palm Independent Freedmen's Advocate Free South, a Union paper published in Beaufort during the Civil War regarding land and freedmen; and the New Harmony Gazette regarding the establishment of Nashoba, a utopian community in western Tennessee backed by Marquis de Lafayette and Robert Owen that welcomed free blacks and slaves. Also some correspondence from the First Annual Report of the Port Royal Relief Committee listing contributors and a series of general orders from Union headquarters in Port Royal regarding land sales, freedmen and civilians.
