The collection includes photocopied photographs of uniformed firemen and clippings from News and Courier about black fire fighters in the Charleston Fire Department. In a 1956 article, the News and Courier reported that black firemen received the same privileges in pay, sick leave, and other benefits
as did white firemen; however, fire stations remained segregated.
