Collection Overview From the Collection: The collection includes a letter of recommendation from Dr. Auld, late principal of the Edisto Island Academy, dated March 10, 1815, from Rev. A.P. Thayer of the Classics Department of Edisto Island Academy. In this letter, Auld mentions that Thayer kept the school open during "the recent war" (the War of 1812).
