Biographical Note

The Mazos were three brothers who immigrated to Charleston from Minsk, each of whom ran a deli--one uptown, one downtown, and one on Folly Beach. Elihu Mazo (1876-1939) and his wife Essie Tandet Mazo (1886-1956) had ten children, including Ann (1913-2003) who married Leon Rabin (1911-2005), son of Hyman and Anna Rabin of New York City. They had one son, Eliot, and one daughter, Eileen [later Sorota]. Leon was the owner and operator of Leon's Men's Wear, President of Dawn's Incorporated, and Chairman of Rale Stores. He was active in many local civil and Jewish organizations.
