The collection consists of various clippings from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper from 1858 to 1901. Each of the clippings concern events or places in South Carolina. Most of the articles concern the Civil War.

Materials relate to the Freilich family's persecution in Nazi Germany, Freilich's rescue by the Kindertransport, subsequent internment in English and Canadian internment camps, and service in the Canadian army. Images include negatives, slides, photocopies, and digital images of family photographs Grabin carried throughout the war. Grabin's memoir details his experience as he was separated from his family and moved from camp to camp, ending at Theresienstadt.
